FJ MyJoys vs. Classic Dry Premieres?

So, as a FJ Classic Dry Premiere kool-aide drinker.. I was very skeptical about the new ICON's as replacements. The preliminary pictures just didn't look like I'd be satisfied with them being the replacements to the all-mighty Classics. So, here are the pics and a short review to follow.
Ordered on 10-20, arrived on 11-6. Great service!
Shield Tip
MyJoys are: White Patent/Pearl Lizard/Smooth Leather
Asymmetrical
MyJoys are: Smooth Leather/Black Cayman Gator
Review
Feel: The ICON's are comfortable right out of the box. They feel like your feet are closer to the ground (ie. Tour 360 LTD's) and are much more stable in the swing. MUCH more stable for me when I transition on to my left side and turn through the swing into my follow through. The CDP's feel like your feet are on top of a semi rigid surface, where as the ICON soles are much more versatile and flexible. My CDP's fit like gloves now and are really really comfortable, however the ICON's feel better out of the box and are noticeably lighter.. I'd actually walk 18 in these.
Looks: Still debating on which ones I like better. The material on the ICON's is really high-end looking. I tried to take some good pics for you guys to see the detail on the lizard, patent, and gator. The CDP's still just have that look to them Something about that wood/leather bottom just has that classy look to them. The ICON's are a great blend of that "look" and modern comfort.
Fit: I wear a 9E in the CDP's and the 9M in the ICON's is perfect (and 9.5M in the 360LTD's for those on the fence ). The ICON's also have a "younger" look to them.. more sleek and lower profile.
I'll be making the ICON's my mainstay.. however, the CDP's will definitely still be making their guest appearance.. I just wont need to hunt for them on the internet anymore.

Those look very nice. I've been a classics guy my whole life and I'm worried about the fit. I take a 9.5 C, and don't know if it's a narrow or regular. I hope I'm not stuck in the middle. If anyone can help?

The Classics were the best golf shoes IMO but of course a bit pricey compared to other shoes. Unfortunately it seems that FJ decided to stop manufacturing these shoes due to lack of demand. Anybody knows where you still can get a good selection of these Classics?

Those look great. Someday, if I ever develop a sense of class, I'll have to get a set of high-end Footjoys. I've been eyeing those ICONs since they were announced.
I just don't normally take the time to take good care of my shoes. I just brush 'em off and throw them in the car. Take the insoles out if they get really wet. They've certainly never seen a shoe tree

I'm like you.. the Classics are the first pair of golf shoes that have ever seen a shoe tree. I think the ICON's will too, now I just have to buy some
The Classics (I haven't been using shoe trees and just throwing them in my trunk) the soles have been starting to curve. I don't think the ICON's will be prone to do this with the way the soles are designed.

Hi eurotrash2,
Unfortunately, being a C width, you are a perfect tweener, caught between a medium and a narrow width. As with anything, the final width you settle on is really dependent on personal preference. I have worked with the shoe team on a conversion chart to get you headed in the right direction. There is no substitute for trying a pair on to ensure that particular size and width are right for you.
XNarrow (3A - 2A)

Narrow (A, B, C)

Medium (C, D, E)

Wide (E, 2E)

XWide (3E)

XXWide (3E - 4E)
A narrow C will generally go to a NARROW width, while a slightly wider C will likely fit better into MEDIUM.
If you have worn non FJ Classics shoes (SYNR-G, DryJoys, etc) in the past, chances are you will go with the width you have trusted all along.
Hope this helps.

Nice review. You know how I feel about the Classics. I hope the Icon's hold up well. Definitely going to grab a pair at some point.

The ICONs are definitely a lighter weight shoe.
I also hope they hold up---but I've stocked up on Classics just in case.

LOL me too, I bought 4 or 5 pairs. But don't count out the ICON's.. I definitely had my doubts, and these definitely won't let you down. Sure there are areas where the CDP's out shine them, but the ICON's can outshine the CDP's in certain areas as well. I find myself right now in the middle.. torn with love for both.

I am a CDP die hard as well. I just don't care for "sneakers" unless I plan on running. I don't mind walking 18 in my CDPs. I like the feeling of stability the traditional sole gives.
I have tried on the icons and they are nice, but no CDP. They are more comparable to the classic tours, which are great shoes as well.

Same here.
6 pair since the announcement --- all Laser last as I prefer that over the Grant.
Already returned a pair of Icons.
FWIW, I really dislike the Champ spikes in Classics Dry Premieres .... feel like little rocks. I've purchased mucho Black Widow spikes for replacement.

I'll have a review of them in a couple of weeks. I bought some with credit that I won at a tournament. I don't think they will match the Classics, but I am hoping for more than a dressed up DryJoy.

Personally, absolutely no shoes compare! Its the leather soles that do it boys cmon you know it. They are the bad boys of golf shoes, although ecco have got me thinking.
Yes I have issues.

Thanks for the tip. I dislike the Champs also. Better stock up on the widows myself.

I don't have a review of them as they came in yesterday, but they are sharp looking.

Those are sharp! I regretted not purchasing a pair of the bronze/brown Classics, which I liked the look of. Felt it recently when I saw Hunter Mahan wearing them in a recent Golf mag. I haven't seen this color in the Icons before. Do any stores stock this color or is it strictly a MyJoy customization? Thanks!

This is strictly a MyJoys customization. Also makes a great dress shoe if you go for the spikeless option!

CMG, any chance there will a pebble grain leather coming out. Having owned Classics for a long time, I prefer the pebble grain, as it is more durable.

Depending on what you're looking for, we actually offer a few variations of the pebble grain texture already. If you're looking for the most pebble grain-looking shoe in the line, it's definitely this FJ ICON traditional saddle which is in the stock line. That being said, all of the FJ ICON styles, including those that are customized through the MyJoys program, feature some degree of grain as well. Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you would like more detail.

The primary benefit of the Classic's line was the welt construction, which allowed the shoes to hold their shape for many years.
ICON's are made using cement construction, which means the shoes will lose their shape in a relatively short amount of time.

A valid point...with CDP's going away, I wonder how long they will keep making small thread (soft)spikes. Would be a shame to have the shoes but not be able to get replacement spikes. I'm sure they will keep making for awhile but how long? Of the 6 pairs CDP I have, 2 are...5-6 years old, and two are still new in the box. They last so long could they outlast spike availability?
Does any other shoe line use small threads?

Actually the small metal thread is still fairly common, just not among the big names like Footjoy, Nike, Adidas etc. Ecco uses them in their World Class line, which is the only mainstream brand that still does.
Beyond that, there are still a ton of lesser known companies out there making golf shoes with the full leather sole and most if not all of them are using the small metal thread. Companies like Nebuloni, Vecci, Par West, Calcaterra, Bobby Jones, Stuburt, Boticelli, Portmann, Brooks Brothers etc. And that's not even counting the smaller names or discount brands who use them because it's the cheapest system to do. Somebody is going to have to make spikes for all those companies.
Having said that, as someone with 20 plus pairs of Classics or similar shoes, I did freak out and go on a buying spree when the thought of the spikes no longer being available crossed my mind.
