Bethpage Black Tee Times?

Just wondering if it's possible to get a tee time at bethpage black this close to the open. I know the course is open until may 30th, i live in manhattan, and have already registered in their system.
I called today and it seems like every tee time is booked for everyday available. My question is, the system has you pick a tee time through an automated system which then tells you if the tee time you selected is available, so do you have to pick a specific tee time on the dot that happens to be open?
I really don't care what time (if any) i am able to secure, but I can't tell if there are either no tee times or if I need to keep guessing at tee times until I land on an open one.
Anyone know?

I went through this and eventually got a time. They are there and you have to get lucky to get one. The times open up one week prior to the day you want to book, at 7pm. If you don't get through inside five minutes of the times opening up, I'd give up for the time being. The other thing you need to do is learn the keystrokes that you'll need. You don't have to wait for the system to stop talking before you input the numbers. I found if you go too fast it gets lost and it will miss something somewhere, but go quickly - practise it if necessary. If you don't get through right away, then call frequently from around two days beforehand. A lot of times people book times for four and then discover that they can't make it, so they cancel a couple of days beforehand, so times start to open up. Lots of people are I think doing this though, so you just have to get lucky.
The tee times available are only from 9 till 1 for reserved times. I don't think it matters what time you pick, it would give you a 1pm time if it was available (I think anyway) even if you input 9am for the time. I went with 10 o'clock and got 11.18, so you certainly don't have to hit it bang on.

Last Sunday I had a tee time on Red. I walked up and lo and behold there were about 4 times on the black. Of course it was raining, but try it.

cool. Thanks for the info, I guess I should listen to that stern robotic voice when he says, "There are no available tee times"
Also, something kind of weird, when I called today I expected for the menu to offer days of tomorrow (thursday) through next thursday. Instead the choices were Sunday-Sunday..? Should I be shooting for whatever day number 7 is?
As in, I would expect when I call at 7pm tonight for the new day to come online, which would be monday (18th)?

The days are always fixed, so Sunday is always 1 no matter what day you call. If you call Friday, 7 will still be Saturday.

try going at 4-5 in the morning. wait and see what you can get. then go eat a nice breakfast in the clubhouse. maybe a nap in the car if you have to wait really long but i cant see the tee time being after 10:30-11.

lol, I just tried the phone for like an hour
Never tried it before, I was waiting with 2 phones at 6:59 and couldn't get thru for a solid 20 minutes, at which point everything was gone. I'll try again tomorrow, just trying to slide in somewhere as a single player.
"There are NO avalible tee times...."
That dude is like the gatekeeper, hes gonna make me cry one of these days
I'd like to get out before the open one more time, but honestly I can't wait for things to settle down again.

ha, yea that voice is killing me as well. I did the same thing, 2 phones at 6:59, got through at 7.10pm and everything was gone.
Also, the tee times that opened today (wednesday) were for wednesday of next week, right?
Answers:
I'm a nonresident and was lucky enough to get through the phone system yesterday (Tuesday) evening for a Thursday 12:48 tee time.
You need to start dialing around 6:55...assuming it's going to take you extra time to get through. I actually think I got through right around 6:58 or so.....they may release the tee times a few mins early.
Use as many phones as you can. Have family members help...and dial like crazy. As mentioned...remember the options.
Practice.
But basically you enter a time you'd like to play and system spits out the nearest available tee time.
Thanks

If anybody gets a time during the week and needs a fourth, give me a shout, I really want to play here this year.
Thanks!

i am playing there this Sat at 11AM
Me and couple of guys were calling about 20 times a day.
It's all good now that we have the tee time but it's $125 for me who lives in NJ. INSANE.

I remember last year a guy in the parking lot told me if it rains then they don't allow people to walk on the course and play. Are tee times still honored provided there's no lightning?

Wait, I was trying yesterday (wednesday) for next wednesday. Should I be trying tonight (thursday) for next saturday?
I'm confused, did you just get lucky?
Answers:
If anyone is interested, I am heading up next Saturday to play Sunday. I'm getting there early Saturday morning to get my place in line for Sunday and will sleep in the car Saturday night.
As long as you can get to the parking lot before the guy comes out with the bracelets/bakery tickets, I'd be happy to open my car door for you.

I hope this is a joke. Paying $125 to play a US Open course a month before the tournament is not expensive - especially in NY. Harbor Links in Port Washington almost charges that much.

The ket to getting a tee time at Bethpage is persistence.
1 - Have 516-249-0707 on speed dial
2 - Have all the keystrokes memorized. Do not wait for the robotic voice to finish speaking, just keep pressing.
3 - Keep trying like 20 times a day
Eventually, you will get a tee time.
Also, best time to try is 72 hours before the time you want to play. This is when all the other golfers that have a tee time need to cancel by without getting charged.
Good luck.

I used to live in Port Washington but didn't start playing golf until after I left.
Only played Harbor Links once, really nice course but not worth the $111 non-resident fee. (was lucky, broker took us out for a golf outing)
Answers:
Harbor Links is nice but not as nice as their management thinks it is. $111 non resident over $85 for a resident. Way too much.
I'd gladly pay my $55 at the Black.
There really are no courses on LI where you can ahve a cart and play for less than $70 on a weekend.

Residents can book 7 days beforehand. Non-residents can only book 2 days beforehand. If you're indifferent about what day you play, each time you call I would check all 7 days for availability. Getting a time basically depends on getting lucky - calling right after someone cancels a time. You're more likely to manage this than you are trying to get through at 7pm. When I was trying, I got through at 5 minutes past 7 and it was already "there are no tee times available". If you ever hear "the best available tee time..." don't drop your phone in excitement. It kicks you out after about two or three seconds of getting to the end of its spiel.

Well, I'll try again tonite. If someone happens to get through and needs a player for Weds or Thursday of next week, let me know, I'll pay half your rate.

plans have changed...
called a bunch of times earlier today (maybe 3-4 calls) for a day next week for me and at least one bud... no luck. at 10:30pm EST tonight, i gave it a random shot and picked up a 12:48pm tee time for me and my friend for THIS saturday... i'm psyched as it's supposed to be decent weather (70s, cloudy, 67% humidity with a 10mph breeze).
knock on wood, i've never had too much trouble getting out on the Black both tee times and as a walk up.

Nice. I called again last night at 7pm, and got through at 7.04. "There are no available tee times." That guy really doesn't like me.

Phew, just randomly called and got a time for a single on Thursday of next week at 11:36 AM. Its supposed to be like 60* and "few showers" but I'm happy I got through. I really don't want to gamble on a nicer day this close to the open.

Good deal. The forecast I saw for the week was sunny, highs in the 60's and precipitation chances less than 30%. Hopefully they'll get that one right and you'll get your round in on Thursday.

I was supposed to play today with a buddy and luckily I called to confirm the tee time before making the trip down (~2hrs away). They got 2" of rain this morning and closed the entire complex.
I carried for 38 holes locally instead which was a barely sufficient consolation. Gonna keep trying for this week and if I can't get a tee time, I'll head down and try my luck in grabbing a single walk on slot.

Aw man, that sucks. There's like levels to getting on the black: 1st level is getting through for a tee time (or being in the lot the night before), 2nd level is weather, and 3rd level has to be traffic or any other unimaginable obstacle you encounter on the way to the course. Naturally you don't encounter this stuff at your local club.
I remember when I slept in my car last year, the guy who was handing out tickets the night before laid down the rules of the course for the next morning. Then at the end he said "Obviously everything I just said doesn't mean anything if it rains tonite." I didn't know about their policy and quickly called a relative to look up the hour by hour forecast.
I'll call them at 5 am before I leave next thurs, since I have a 3 1/2 car drive ahead of me. I just want to play it with all those grandstands and tents around.

I first called the normal reservation line (the 0707 number) to confirm my tee time via the automated system and it wasn't showing up at all which had me worried that my reservation didn't go through or something else happened. I then called the main line (0701) and hit 0 for the operator and spoke to some guy who broke the news. Definitely try and speak to a live person when you call before heading down.
I've never had a problem walking up as a single in the past and haven't even had to sleep in my car (just showed up around 8am and got out). Obviously chances are much slimmer of that happening these days but I'm still going to try my luck if I don't get a time before they close it up on the 31st.
Glad you were able to get a time...enjoy it! Hope the weather cooperates for you.
